Industrial Single Board Computers
High-Performance ARM® Industrial Single Board Computers (SBCs) for IoT, Automation & Edge AI
Gateworks designs and manufactures industrial-grade ARM-based single board computers (SBCs) engineered for reliability, longevity and performance. Made in the USA under ISO-certified processes, our SBCs are optimized to power demanding applications, from smart factories and autonomous robots to energy infrastructure, smart transportation, remote IoT gateways, and mission-critical control systems. All Gateworks SBCs use NXP ARM® processors for high performance and low power. To enhance each industrial SBC family, expansion modules and Mini-PCIe cards add capabilities such as cellular and satellite modem connectivity.
- Made in the USA: All Gateworks products are built in our own SMT facility in San Luis Obispo, California, under stringent ISO-Certified quality control, ensuring high traceability and consistency.
- Long-life availability and support: We choose processors and components with 10 to 15+ years of availability. Even when a product is nearing end of life, Gateworks offers inventory management programs to help customers maintain continuity.
- Rugged & industrial-grade design: All products are rated for industrial temperature ranges, –40 to +85°C, and can be optionally enhanced with conformal coating, staking, underfill or bonding for vibration, shock, moisture and dust resistance.
- Flexible connectivity & expansion: With multiple Ethernet ports, Mini-PCIe or M.2 expansion, and support for various wireless options (cellular, satellite, Wi-Fi, GNSS, etc.), Gateworks SBCs adapt to a wide range of embedded system architectures.
- Edge-compute capable for IoT, automation, AI/ML: From basic embedded control to edge-AI and neural-processing workloads, Gateworks boards scale with application needs from gateways to a robotics brain to industrial controllers.
- Highly Customizable: For projects that require a custom form factor or feature set, our hardware and software engineers can create a completely custom design in short order.

Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS AN INDUSTRIAL SINGLE BOARD COMPUTER (SBC)?
An industrial SBC is more than just a compact computer board. It’s a rugged, long-life embedded platform built to withstand harsh environments, extreme temperatures, vibration, dust, and moisture while delivering consistent performance over years of continuous operation. Industrial SBCs provide the I/O, connectivity, scalability and lifecycle guarantees required by OEMs, system integrators, and engineers deploying embedded systems for real-world industrial, transportation, energy and robotics applications.
Unlike hobbyist “single board computers”, industrial SBCs offer extended temperature ratings, industrial connectivity (Ethernet, serial, GPIO, CAN, wireless, etc.), flexible expansion, secure boot, and long-term availability. This makes them ideal for 24/7 deployments, field use and mission-critical systems. Learn more about our manufacturing process here.
WHAT TEMPERATURE RANGE DO GATEWORKS SBCs SUPPORT?
All Gateworks industrial SBCs and accessories are rated for industrial-grade operation from –40°C to +85°C, which makes them suitable for deployment in harsh environments, outdoor equipment, mobile machinery and industrial enclosures. More thermal management recommendations here.
CAN YOU CUSTOMIZE AN SBC FOR MY APPLICATION?
Yes. Gateworks offers both “Special Configuration” (modification of existing boards: DRAM/flash size, processor speed, connectors) and full custom-design services, allowing full control over board layout, I/O, etc., for those who need a tailored solution. Learn more about customization here.
WHAT CONNECTIVITY AND EXPANSION OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
Multiple Ethernet ports, Mini-PCIe or M.2 expansion slots, and support for a broad range of wireless options (cellular modems, satellite, GNSS/GPS, Wi-Fi HaLow, Wi-Fi 6, etc.) enable SBCs to function as gateways, communication hubs or embedded controllers. Gateworks single board computers can come with up to six Ethernet ports and five wireless radios via the Mini-PCIe and M.2 sockets.
This also lets you run AI locally on the board and wirelessly send summarized insights, alerts or compressed data to the cloud, SCADA, or enterprise backends, rather than streaming raw sensor data.
WHICH OPERATING SYSTEMS ARE SUPPORTED?
All Gateworks single board computers come with an Ubuntu Linux Board Support Package. For more information about OpenWRT, Buildroot and other OS support, learn more on our wiki here.
WHAT IS THE EXPECTED LIFETIME AND AVAILABILITY?
Gateworks selects components with 10+ to 15+ year availability. As part of our lifecycle policy, we notify customers early about potential end-of-life events and offer inventory or continuity programs. Learn more about our EOL policy here.
DO GATEWORKS INDUSTRIAL SBCs SUPPORT EDGE AI AND MACHINE LEARNING?
Yes. Gateworks SBCs based on NXP’s i.MX processors are well-suited for edge AI and ML inference. Platforms like the i.MX 8M Plus and i.MX 95 (with an integrated NPU) provides the performance needed for running models for object detection, classification, anomaly detection, sensor fusion, and predictive maintenance directly at the edge without relying on a constant cloud connection. For more advanced machine learning and AI applications, you can integrate an AI accelerator via the Mini-PCIe or M.2 sockets available on Gateworks SBCs.
WHAT IS EDGE AI AND WHY WOULD I RUN IT ON AN INDUSTRIAL SBC?
Edge AI means running AI/ML models locally on the device, close to sensors and actuators, instead of in a remote data center. Running AI on an industrial SBC reduces latency, improves reliability when connectivity is intermittent, keeps sensitive data on-premises, and lowers bandwidth and cloud costs. This is ideal for smart factories, robotics/AMRs, energy systems and remote monitoring, where real-time decisions matter.
